About the College

Dental Technicians are health care professionals who fabricate dental appliances which are prescribed by a dentist or requested by a denturist.
Their complete scope of practice is set out in the Dental Technician Regulation.
Dental Technicians must be registered with their regulatory college and may use the reserved title of Dental Technician (DT), Registered Dental Technician (RDT) or Certified Dental Technician (CDT).
The College also registers Dental Technician Assistants and Dental Technician Students who may only provide dental technology services under the supervision of a Registered Dental Technician.
The College of Dental Technicians of British Columbia is established by Regulation under the Health Professions Act. The College's primary purpose is to serve and protect the public by regulating the profession of dental technology.
Registrants are also required to practice in accordance with the Bylaws of the College, including the Standards of Practice and the Code of Ethics.

- Administering licensure examinations
- Registering qualified dental technicians
- Setting and monitoring:
- practice standards
- ethical standards
- requirements for continuing education
- Investigating complaints
- Disciplining registrants
The College's Board is made up of five elected Dental Technicians, one elected Dental Technician Assistant and three government appointed public members.
The College has approximately 1,100 registrants providing services in approximately 300 laboratories throughout BC.
